Clallam County MRC votes to skip regular July meetings; December meetings set as 'to be determined'

"The motion on the table is to change our MRC agendas to skip the month of July and have December as to be determined based on workload," the chair said after the unanimous‑consent approval.
Members also welcomed Beverly Burton as an alternate for the community‑at‑large seat; Burton introduced herself, described a 30‑year career in geospatial intelligence, and said she recently moved to Sequim and looks forward to participating.
Project updates and volunteer opportunities: Members heard several brief project reports and announcements. A June 1–3 Olympia oyster monitoring event was announced and members were asked to RSVP to the project lead. A recent pinto abalone survey found about six abalone (mostly large), including one previously tagged animal; divers also surveyed habitat and potential out‑plant sites. Elise Miller announced an eelgrass out‑planting at Edith’s Hook May 6–8 and invited volunteers to contact her or committee staff to sign up.
Outreach and recognition: Ed Bowlby reported that the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society BirdFest generated new pigeon guillemot volunteers and provided positive public visibility for the MRC. Committee members discussed the new Olympic Coast Exploration Center interpretive center and potential collaboration on outreach displays and festival booths.
Next steps: The committee confirmed the next regular meeting date for May 18 and noted the July 20 date on calendars (no meeting). Members asked staff and project leads to coordinate on scheduling and volunteer outreach for the announced field events.
