Board adopts ordinance updating Superior Court fee schedule after brief public hearing

Clallam County commissioners opened and closed a public hearing on an ordinance to consolidate and update the Superior Court clerk's fee schedule, then moved and approved the ordinance on April 21.
Nikki Button, introduced herself as the Superior Court clerk, summarized the recent state legislation (House Bill 2543) that amends RCW 36.18.020 to clarify which copying and exhibit charges the clerk may assess and how electronic records should be provided. "The language in the RCW was outdated and didn't fall in line with rules set out for appeal and how the clerk should provide copies of exhibits," Button said, noting that the county has migrated to the Odysee case-management portal and established a subscription fee structure for accessing records.
Commissioners opened the public hearing and, finding no public testimony on the ordinance, closed the hearing. The board then moved to adopt the ordinance amending county code chapter 5.100 (consolidated fee schedule for the Superior Court clerk). The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The ordinance aligns the county fee schedule with state law and removes a $15 bench-copy service that the clerk said was no longer necessary after the system change; Button said bench copies will still be provided at no charge if physically delivered to the court. The county did not record a roll-call vote in the transcript beyond a voice "aye."
