County advances fish‑passage work: Dungeness Channel feasibility study and culvert easement set for agenda

Public works staff told commissioners they will place two items on the regular agenda: a no‑cost scope and time extension with Anchor QEA to add a point‑of‑diversion feasibility study to the Dungeness Channel Reservoir project, and a temporary easement purchase to allow a culvert replacement on Nina Smith Road (tributary to the Dickey/Dinkey River).
Staff said the feasibility study will evaluate a headgate/screen design intended to keep fish in the river and prevent entrainment into irrigation diversions while still allowing irrigators to exercise their water rights. For the culvert project, staff said Wild Salmon Center will be the contract agency and will reimburse the county for the temporary easement; construction is planned for summer and traffic will be managed with single‑lane flagging.
Both items were supported for placement on the regular agenda; no final contract amendments or purchases were approved at the work session.
