Attendees announced two beach-related volunteer events in April and discussed coordinating with the Washington Clean Coast Alliance and the Surfrider Foundation. Organizers suggested adding a July cleanup tied to post‑fireworks debris removal.
Several residents proposed a local beautification grant to incentivize exterior improvements to commercial buildings and murals. Participants discussed possible funding sources including lodging tax revenue and community development block grants; the group noted that lodging-tax receipts in unincorporated areas are collected by the county and then dispersed, which complicates direct local control.
Speakers suggested the county or a visitor-center director could pursue grant writing and administration to support beautification and tourism-focused projects. The Port of Port Angeles representative said the port is pursuing grants to attract businesses and support tenant workforce needs.
Fire-district representatives reported a new grant for wildland equipment, plans to apply for American Red Cross support for a smoke-detector program, and interest in creating credit-bearing experiences for students who train in emergency response and EMS.
The meeting closed with an invitation to join the advisory committee (appointments by the board required to make formal recommendations) and a reminder that the committee meets monthly on the second Thursday; the next meeting was announced as April 9.
