Ferron planning commission approves minutes, discusses handling routine zoning clearances via email

The Ferron City Planning and Zoning Commission on March 3 approved minutes for meetings held December 2, 2025, and January 6, 2026, and discussed administrative changes to how routine zoning clearances are processed.
Commissioner Keith Harvey moved to approve the Dec. 2, 2025 minutes, and Commissioner Stephanie Howes seconded; the motion carried on roll call. Commissioner Stephanie Howes moved to approve the Jan. 6, 2026 minutes, and Commissioner Keith Harvey seconded; that motion also carried on roll call.
Under other business, Planning Commission Chair Terrance Bell reported that zoning clearances for smaller items such as sheds and garages have been approved and that, with the recent code changes, most of those clearances can be handled via email. Bell said that larger projects—subdivisions and homes—will still require commissioners to consider them in public meetings.
Commissioner Brad Clausen asked whether there is a time limit once someone receives a zoning clearance; Chair Bell said he would review the ordinances and report back (the meeting did not specify a time limit). Council Member Vance Brown asked whether emailed clearances could be uploaded so the commission could stay aware of approvals handled administratively; Bell acknowledged the suggestion.
Commissioner Stephanie Howes moved to adjourn at 7:20 p.m.; Commissioner Keith Harvey seconded and the motion carried.
