Stormwater crews complete major Candlelight dredging; Russell Street repaving estimate comes back at $300k–$350k

Public Works staff updated the council on a major stormwater project and road repaving plans on June 17.
Richard Weeks reported crews completed the Candlelight dredging project in May, removing 377 tons (about 754,000 pounds) of aquatic vegetation and widening the retention area to 30 feet to improve flow. "This was a major stormwater project, that they completed in 30 days," Weeks said, and urged councilmembers to inspect the work in person.
During preventative maintenance at Lamar and Lemon, crews uncovered an outfall that had been buried for an estimated five to ten years; staff said freeing that outfall allowed water to flow that had been backed up for years.
On Russell Street repaving, Weeks said the city had received two contractor quotes and expected a final figure once minor missing items (curbing, about 100 feet) were added. He provided a ballpark range of $300,000–$350,000 for repaving, and staff agreed to deliver a finalized number by the June 24 budget meeting so the council can consider contracting.
Outcome: Council asked staff to provide final quotes and place Russell Street repair and contract authorization on the June 24 budget meeting agenda; staff will return final numbers tomorrow for inclusion.
