Midway’s council finalized key elements of its 20th Anniversary celebration planning during the April 23 budget work session, settling on food trucks, children’s activities and logistical staffing.
The planning committee secured three food vendors: Drift Along Pizza (14-inch flatbreads at $12), Old Richmond Grill (hamburgers and hot dogs), and a lemonade/slushie vendor. Council discussed pricing, concerns about mess in the Pavilion and whether to use a ticketing system; councilors reached consensus to proceed with the food-truck approach and asked the committee to manage ticket logistics and vendor payments based on collected tickets.
Town Manager Brock Hall described planned entertainment and activities including DARE program vehicle displays, a fire truck and a garbage truck for children, yard games (giant checkers, Connect Four, Jenga, cornhole) and matching T-shirts for Parks staff and volunteers for identification. Mayor John Byrum suggested exploring face painters, caricature artists, jugglers and a photographer; Council expressed interest in exploring additional options while focusing on the core planned activities.
The council did not take formal votes on entertainment vendors; event coordination was left to the committee.
