County sanitarian reports private well grant balance, ongoing testing for PFOS and other contaminants

Caytee Jones, Clayton County Sanitarian, told the Board of Health on March 10 that the county’s Private Well Grant had a current balance of $13,763.80 to use through the fourth quarter and that 177 water tests have been completed year-to-date.
"Ms. Jones reviewed Private Well Grant data with the Board which included current grant balance of $13,763.80 to use through Q4. 177 water tests have been completed FYTD," the minutes state.
Jones also said her office is conducting household water testing to look for potential PFOS, heavy metals and atrazine in areas where instances of different types of cancer without genetic links have been present. She told the board the environmental-health team is pursuing targeted testing in response to those local health concerns and that the sanitarian’s office is in the process of hiring a secretary to support the department’s workload.
The board did not record any formal action tied to the testing or grant progress during the March 10 meeting; Jones’ report will remain on the department’s agenda for future updates.
