Hancock County supervisors approve maintenance purchases, authorize nuisance-abatement notice and hold exempt session

The Hancock County Board of Supervisors on May 26, 2026 in Garner approved several maintenance purchases, authorized a nuisance-abatement notice for a Garner property and recessed into an exempt session under Iowa law before adjourning.

Supervisor Gary Rayhons moved to approve the tentative agenda; Supervisor Florence (Sis) Greiman seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Greiman then moved to approve the minutes of May 18, 2026; Rayhons seconded and the board approved the minutes.

On a motion by Rayhons, seconded by Greiman and carried unanimously, the board approved a $262.40 quote from Spencer Steel LLC for a top for a work bench for the Maintenance/Storage garage and authorized serving an abatement notice pursuant to Nuisance Ordinance No. 7 to the landowner of 2822 Otto Ave, Garner. The meeting record does not specify the property owner’s name.

The board also approved, on motion by Greiman and seconded by Rayhons, purchases for various tools and equipment for the Maintenance/Storage garage totaling $1,297.08 (battery charger, extension ladder, vise, air hose kit, drill bit set, pry bar set and punch set).

The board recessed at 11:00 a.m. for an exempt session pursuant to Iowa Code section 21.9 and reconvened at 1:32 p.m. The agenda and minutes do not state the subject of the exempt session.

Supervisor Greiman moved to adjourn at 1:37 p.m.; the motion carried with all supervisors voting “Aye.” Auditor Michelle K. Eisenman attested to the minutes. The board is scheduled to meet again on June 1, 2026.
