The Danbury Environmental Impact Commission on Oct. 9 granted administrative approval for the city and DOT to remove accumulated sediment and woody vegetation from Peyton Aaron Brook near the Crosby Street bridge to protect the structure and reduce downstream sedimentation.
Larry, a city staff member, said the work will be performed from the topside: crews will cut and remove woody vegetation, scoop accumulated sediment, place material in trucks and haul it away, and deploy booms as required. He said the work is intended to prevent additional stresses to the bridge and is a response to increased stormwater volumes and sediment 'leapfrogging' down the Still River system.
A commissioner moved to grant administrative approval for the Peyton Aaron Brook work; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. Staff said the work will include necessary best‑management practices and that construction services will coordinate to protect the bridge.
