Rye MPIC reviews coastal risk assessment, FEMA-focused mitigation grant and TNC workshop

Chair John Shaw told the committee that phase I of the Coastal Risk Assessment is available online and that the RPC will circulate supporting science; he said a second guidance document is expected later this year and noted new groundwater and sea-level rise scenarios.
Shaw mentioned that The Nature Conservancy is offering a free resiliency workshop. Committee members discussed whether TNC's community-based work would influence the town's All Hazard Mitigation Plan.
Planning & Zoning Administrator Kimberly Reed explained that the two efforts serve different roles: TNC focuses on community-based resiliency planning, while the All Hazard Mitigation Plan is an emergency-management tool with FEMA-prescribed guidance and requirements. Reed said the town has applied for a grant to update its All Hazard Mitigation Plan; the Select Board signed paperwork and the application is now with "GnC" for approval. If approved, the Emergency Management Team led by Scott Blaisdell would oversee the work this year.
Pat Losik and others urged staff and members to attend a Coastal Viewer workshop that includes mapping tools used in permitting; Losik pointed to Land Development Regulation 6.9, which ties adaptation considerations to Coastal Viewer-produced maps when reviewing site development.
No formal action on the grant or a workshop endorsement was taken; committee members asked staff to circulate the RPC materials and follow up on the timeline for part 2 guidance and the Coastal Viewer workshop.
