The New Iberia City Council on Wednesday moved forward with several ordinances and contract approvals spanning property sales, service agreements and disaster-response planning.
The council read Ordinance 2026-10, proposing a $325,000 cash sale of city-owned real estate to BGNI LLC while reserving a servitude for passage and utilities; the public hearing was opened and closed with no public speakers and the council moved to adopt the ordinance.
Clerk-read Ordinance 2026-14 authorized the mayor to negotiate and execute a master services agreement with SRI Services Inc. to provide tax-sale and related services, replacing the outgoing vendor CivicSource. The council discussed that fees and expenses would be added and passed through as part of the tax-sale process.
Ordinance 2026-15 would authorize a servitude agreement with Pleco Power LLC for right-of-way connected to a future academy site; council members referenced the academy in discussion and described the servitude as part of right-of-way work to serve that project. Ordinance 2026-16 authorizes a temporary occupancy permit and option to purchase an easement with BNSF Railway Company; staff and council praised a key project contributor and described the project as an asset to downtown traffic flow.
Council introduced an ordinance to accept a proposal from Bay Road Habits & Associates Inc. for debris monitoring and management services for hurricane cleanup, and amended an ordinance on disaster recovery services to accept Sears & Environmental Services as the environmental services contractor; the amendment was moved, seconded and advanced to a main motion for a vote.
