Town accelerates MS4 outfall mapping ahead of possible state and federal audits

Staff updated the Stormwater Management Board on work to map stormwater outfalls required by the town's MS4 permit.
Riley Jones, a planning and zoning staff member, said an intern has mapped more than half of the required outfalls and the team expects to finish mapping this year. Jones said the town has coordinated with wastewater GIS staff and plans to consolidate records into a shared inventory system to improve documentation and reporting.
Staff warned there is a legitimate chance of a state audit and a roughly one-in-five chance of a federal audit during the permit cycle, making complete documentation important for future funding applications. Better documentation and a work-order system, Jones said, will also help the town produce FEMA or grant reports showing equipment hours and detailed work logs.
No formal vote was taken; staff said they will continue mapping and bring progress updates to the board.
