Jacob Brown was appointed and sworn in as a city magistrate at the Mesa City Council meeting. Mayor Freeman called for the appointment and, after council moved and voted, the appointment passed unanimously. Brown then took the oath of office administered by a city official.
After the ceremony, Brown told the council he was "humbled by the opportunity to continue to serve," said he would follow the judicial code and "act at all times in a manner that promotes public confidence in the independence, integrity, and impartiality of the judiciary," and noted he had spent 13 years as a prosecutor. He said the municipal court's primary purpose is to serve the criminal justice system while protecting the most vulnerable in the city.
Mayor Freeman and members of the council congratulated Brown and invited council members and staff to join for a photograph. No additional formal conditions or recusals were announced at the meeting.
