Fire and police updates: Ravena reports 14 fire calls in May; village notes chief's resignation

The Ravena Village Board received routine public-safety updates on June 2, including a fire-department activity summary and a police workload snapshot; the chair also informed the board that Chief Tryon had submitted his resignation.

Chair summarized the monthly fire department report prepared by Chief Kevin Phillips: "During the month of May, the department has responded to 14 calls for service," covering EMS, structure and vehicle fires, motor-vehicle accidents, alarm activations and public-service calls. Chair also reported members completed six training sessions, all apparatus remained in service, and no firefighter injuries were recorded during the month.

On policing, the Chair said officers logged 1,078 calls for service and issued 31 tickets from 231 traffic stops; several officers participated in training courses and Supervisor Veeder began a three-week supervisor school. The Chair said Chief Tryon has submitted his resignation, and the board will consider next steps for filling the position.

Separately, the board heard the village's water report and was told that temporary water restrictions remain because one basin was offline during construction; the Chair urged residents to hand-water new plantings and avoid excessive sprinkler use while reservoir and creek levels recover.

No formal personnel action on the police chief position was recorded during the meeting; the Chair's announcement served as an informational update to the board rather than a motion to accept a resignation or set a hiring timetable.
