Fluvanna County to redraw EMS first-due lines after Albemarle reduces coverage

MJ Fick, the county’s EMS supervisor, presented proposed revisions to Fluvanna County’s EMS response districts at the May 20 meeting, saying Albemarle County Fire Rescue has requested a reduction in its first-due coverage inside Fluvanna County because of increased call volume in Albemarle.
Fick said the proposed map would move some Palmyra-area first-due responsibilities to Station 1 (Palmyra) from Station 2 (Fork Union), reassign Pleasant Grove Park from Lake Monticello Station 5 to Station 1, and adjust Fork Union Station 2’s boundaries to move response lines closer to Scottsville and Paynes Landing along Rt. 6. The changes are based on GIS modeling that factors distance and expected travel times.
Fick told the board the county has notified properties affected by survey crews and that most callers to Public Utilities expressed interest only in verification. No formal vote was taken on the map during the meeting; the item was presented to inform board review and potential next steps.
