The Berks County Board of Commissioners approved its meeting agenda on June 1, heard finance and operations reports and considered a slate of budget, contract and personnel items, while pausing to extend condolences after the on‑duty death of Officer Yeager.
Chairman Leinbach opened the session and introduced the public comment rules, then summarized agenda items including a proposed resolution authorizing 2026 budget transfers totaling $52,000 within 2026 appropriations of $111,701,000 and a purchasing recommendation to award a one‑year contract for employment, advancement and retention network services for Pennsylvania CareerLink — Berks County to Educational Data Systems of Dearborn, Michigan, not to exceed $1,050,000 for the fiscal year 07/01/2026–06/30/2027. The contracts agenda listed 21 agreements across county departments, including eight with the area agency on aging and multiple agreements involving children and youth services, facilities, parks and libraries.
A motion to approve the agenda "as presented" was made, seconded and carried.
Treasurer Mitch Darko reported the county's cash position: "Today, we have an opening balance of $328,740,923.67. We have a balance to clear of $5,880,487.57, leaving us with a balance of $322,860,436.10," he said. Controller Joe Rudderot told the board that, for the week ending June 5, total accounts payable were $6,298,439.15 and employee payroll totaled $5,636,038.52, for total cash disbursements of $11,934,477.67; he also announced that Angela France in the controller's office passed the Certified Fraud Examiner exam, supporting the county's audit compliance efforts.
Under human resources, the commissioners were asked to authorize several personnel actions: the appointment of Daniel Woodman as Law Clerk 1 in court administration; the appointment of Tyler Novak as Assistant Public Defender 1; the promotion of Casey O'Neil from jury clerk to jury program supervisor; and the promotion of Jasmine Baez from Support 4 to Office Manager in the Register of Wills office.
Commissioners used their time for community updates: Commissioner Dante Santoni highlighted local heritage events and an upcoming World War II weekend and noted a June 9 end‑of‑watch ceremony for Officer Yeager at Don Thomas Stadium; Santoni asked the public to remember the officer and the family. Chairman Leinbach and Commissioner Michael Rivera also described recent community events and site visits — including work on Olivet Boys & Girls Club renovation projects that Rivera said will reopen locations to serve children (Rivera said Mulberry Street's site could serve roughly 1,000 youth when complete).
Administrative items introduced for later formal action included a peer review agreement for the county comptroller's office and letters of support for a township bridge rehabilitation over the Schuylkill River and for a figure‑skating club grant application. Several routine motions were presented authorizing execution of contracts, payments and payroll disbursements subject to final departmental review.
There were no public comments submitted in person or online during the meeting's public comment period, and the board adjourned after routine business.
The board signaled no immediate changes to county operations beyond listed authorizations; many agenda items were presented as consent or routine items to be adopted as part of the board's agenda package. Additional formal approvals or contract signatures will be recorded in the county's official minutes and contract registers when executed.
