Des Peres releases draft 2026 park master plan, seeks community feedback

Jeff Nilges, of Planning Design Studio, presented the draft 2026 Des Peres Park master plan to the Parks & Recreation Commission on June 4, 2026, outlining project goals, schedule and next steps.
The draft builds on the city’s 2016 10‑year plan and identifies seven focus areas — the lake, tennis/pickleball courts, soccer/baseball fields, landscaping, roadways, trails and core improvements — and proposes adding a maintenance building and improving the existing barn to serve as an event/multipurpose center. Nilges said the project team has completed two resident surveys and will open a third community survey in August to gather further input.
Director of Parks & Recreation Corey Newgent told commissioners the plan remains in development and that the Grant Commission requires an updated master plan every 10 years for grant eligibility. Both Nilges and Newgent emphasized that no decisions are final and that recommendations will be shaped by resident feedback.
The presentation included background on the 2016 plan and the project schedule; planners said details such as exact siting, designs, and cost estimates will be developed as the planning process continues. The commission did not take any formal action on the plan at the June 4 meeting; staff will return with additional information as surveys and design work proceed.
