The vice chair of the Marathon County board briefed the Health and Human Services committee on the countywide strategic plan update process and set a timetable intended to produce a draft for board review by November–December 2026.
Key milestones presented include June 2026 standing committee briefings on purpose and expectations; July–August surveys of county supervisors and department heads to narrow more than 58 objectives to a shorter list; an August community survey to refine priorities to roughly 10 objectives that reflect both organizational and community interests; and September staff work to compile results and propose outcome measures and performance indicators. Standing committees will evaluate objectives in October and the draft strategic plan will be presented to the full county board for review and possible adoption in November–December.
The vice chair said staff will seek to limit the final list of objectives to 10 and urged supervisors to choose priorities that are achievable and aligned with available policy and budget resources. Committee members were told to expect a survey in the coming weeks and that Laurie (staff) will be involved in administration of the process.
Committee members discussed aligning the timeline with external conferences and associations; the vice chair and staff said they would solicit input at the Wisconsin Counties Association conference and from NACO priorities where relevant. The committee was reminded that selecting priority objectives implies committing staff time and budget resources to implementation.
Procedural items that followed included asking members to bring ideas for future discussion and confirming the next committee meeting for Wednesday, July 1. A closing voice vote approved a procedural motion in the meeting’s final minutes.
