The St. Louis Board of Aldermen on June 5 adopted Resolution No. 38 honoring Legal Services of Eastern Missouri on its 70th anniversary.
The clerk read the resolution noting the organizations founding in 1956, its offices in St. Louis, Clayton, Union and Hannibal and its mission to provide free legal assistance to low-income clients in 21 eastern Missouri counties. "Legal Services of Eastern Missouri promotes the well-being of neighborhoods and communities throughout Missouri by providing equal access to justice," the reading stated.
Dan Glazier, who identified himself as executive director of Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, thanked the board and described the agencys role in helping families with housing, health-care access and other civil legal needs. "My passion is strong," Glazier said, noting the organization works to help clients "survive and ultimately to thrive." He said staff and board members present came as partners with city government to serve residents.
Several aldermen praised Legal Services for vacancy litigation, neighborhood stabilization and tenant-landlord assistance. An alderwoman from the 1st Ward described the organizations role in preventing facility closures and helping companies stay in the city through operational expansion.
An alderwoman moved to adopt the resolution; the motion was seconded, the clerk called the roll, and the board adopted Resolution No. 38. The board invited staff from Legal Services forward for recognition and photos.
