The RSU 15/MSAD 15 school board voted to approve a central‑office reorganization that will take effect after the current Director of Finance and Operations steps down at the end of June.
Administration and the personnel committee proposed eliminating the Director of Finance and Operations role and elevating the existing curriculum director position to Assistant Superintendent with expanded duties (curriculum and broader administrative oversight). The board approved updated job descriptions for the superintendent, the new assistant superintendent, business manager, executive secretary to the superintendent, an office‑support specialist and also voted to formally eliminate the Director of Finance and Operations job description.
Superintendent Dr. Turner said the reorganization reduces an administrative position while retaining payroll flexibility should district needs change, and she highlighted that the curriculum director has historically backed up the superintendent; board members emphasized a planned six‑month check‑in to monitor workload and the reorganization’s effects on operations.
Board members asked about state funding formulas (ED279) and whether the title change would affect state calculations; administration said the most recent ED279 changes removed that constraint. The board also discussed budget impacts: administration estimated a net reduction roughly equal to about half of a full salary (back‑of‑the‑envelope), with final salary levels to be negotiated where applicable.
What the board approved: motions to adopt updated job descriptions and to remove the Director of Finance and Operations job description were moved, seconded and approved in sequence. Board members asked staff to return with a January/February check‑in and to monitor whether workload or service levels require adjustment before the next budget season.
