The Apache Junction Parks and Recreation Commission voted June 3 to recommend that City Council adopt updates to the parks and recreation fee schedule in City Code, Volume 1, Chapter 4, Article 4‑1, a staff presentation said.
Riley King, management analyst for Parks and Recreation, presented the commission with a final recommendation after prior meetings and the statutorily required five‑year fee review. King said staff recommends increases to rentals (MGC rental fees, sports fields, ramadas and open spaces), personnel and alcohol permit fees, a 10% increase to MGC memberships while day passes would remain unchanged, and new fees tied to the Rodeo Event Center (pavilion, dry camping, RV hookup fees, portable stalls and stall bedding). King also recommended setting vendor electrical fees at $125 for the east side and $150 for the south side of the rodeo grounds, reflecting differences in outlet type and availability. King told the commission the proposed updates would be posted for 60 days and a public hearing is required before final adoption; staff anticipates the changes could take effect Jan. 1, 2027 if council approves them.
Commissioner Frank Schoenbeck moved that the commission recommend the code changes to City Council as presented by staff; the motion was seconded and adopted by roll call. The record shows the motion passed and staff will forward the recommended ordinance language and a clean code version to council for its review and the required public posting.
Commissioners who spoke during the discussion praised the presentation’s clarity and described the proposed fee changes as modest and consumer‑friendly. King noted that aquatic fees and program fees were not being changed as part of this update.
