Commission approves several contracts, interlocal agreements and a small-business grant

The Duchesne County Commission approved multiple contracts and grants June 1 as part of routine agenda business and said the actions were aimed at maintaining public safety, legal capacity and small-business support.

Commissioners approved a State of Utah contract with the sheriff's office for court security services after staff described the sheriff's ongoing courtroom-security responsibilities. The commission then unanimously approved renewal of a local cooperative agreement supporting the regional narcotics strike force; commissioners voiced appreciation for the task force’s contributions to youth and community safety.

The commission also approved an updated mutual‑aid/MOU for wildfire resources and reimbursement (a Fire Resource Agreement), which staff said modernizes cost and billing procedures that had not been revised since 2019.

On administrative services, staff requested authorization for a LexisNexis legal‑research subscription for the county attorney’s office beginning July 1. Staff described the tool as essential to the attorney's work and noted rising costs related to new features; the commission authorized the subscription and delegated signature authority to the chair or designee.

Finally, the commission reviewed and accepted a $10,000 matching grant application for Southern Jewel Salon to cover flooring and lighting upgrades. Staff said the business invested nearly $35,000 in improvements, used local vendors for work, and had invoices demonstrating eligible expenses; commissioners approved the award pending standard checks.

All items were approved by motion and voice vote; staff were directed to complete required signatures and document exchanges.
