Wheat Ridge staff says council will consider transferring Board of Adjustment duties to Planning Commission

At the June 4 meeting, staff announced schedule changes and a pending City Council action to transfer some Board of Adjustment duties to the Planning Commission.
Staff member Jana told commissioners that a Council first reading will set a public hearing for July 13 to consider transferring Board of Adjustment responsibilities. "It's just 1st reading, so it's going to set the public hearing," Jana said. She said the proposed change stems from a decline in Board of Adjustment caseloads and, if approved, would become effective in March of the following year so current board members will have at least one year to serve.
Jana also reviewed meeting dates: the commission will meet June 18 (there is one case on that agenda), the July 2 meeting was canceled for lack of cases, and the July 16 meeting status is TBD.
If Council approves the transfer, the Planning Commission will occasionally close its meeting and reopen as the Board of Adjustment to hear variances greater than 50% and code‑interpretation matters. Staff said additional training will be provided before implementation and commissioners will receive notice of the Council hearing.
