Peru Board clears fireworks, charity ride and school procession permits

The Peru Board of Public Works approved multiple event and traffic-control requests during its May 19 meeting.
The board granted Paul Foreman’s request to close the Riverwalk at West City Park on June 26 from 4 to 11 p.m. for a fireworks display and approved closing Mac Park’s disc golf course on July 4 from 3 to 11 p.m. Foreman described prior years’ operations using barricades, signage and caution tape to keep spectators clear of active areas; the board accepted his safety rationale.
The board also approved a traffic block around 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, for the 2nd annual Voice of Peru Parents Right Against Bullying charity ride and family day at McConachqua Amphitheater. Organizer George Morris described setup beginning about 10 a.m., a 1 p.m. bike departure, family activities through roughly 5:30 p.m., and bike night into the evening.
Separately, the board approved a procession request from Scott Thompson for the Peru Junior–Senior High School class of 2026 on May 27 at 6:30 p.m., noting the event typically involves 40–50 vehicles and takes roughly 10–12 minutes. Department representatives said they would coordinate with county EMA for traffic control as in prior years.
All event-related requests were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote; no objections were recorded during the meeting.
