Committee forwards WSDOT prospectus for Deschutes Valley Trail segment C with federal funds and local match

The Public Works Committee on June 4 reviewed the Deschutes Valley Trail (DVT) project and recommended the City Council place the WSDOT construction obligation prospectus for segment C on the June 16 consent calendar.
Jared Verheia, capital projects manager, described DVT as a roughly 2.5‑mile corridor that will connect five city parks and the Tumwater Valley Golf Course when complete. He said segment C is approximately 1.1 miles of asphalt trail, includes an approximately 85‑foot bridge over an existing drainage ditch adjacent to the golf course and will include wetland buffer restoration along portions of the route.
Verheia said the segment C project estimate is about $5.5 million, with roughly $2.6 million in federal funds administered through the Thurston Regional Planning Council and the remainder coming from Metropolitan Park District park impact fees and the general fund. Council members asked about sequencing for other segments and staff said they are still deciding which segment to pursue next while developing grant applications to cover additional costs.
The committee voted to forward the WSDOT construction obligation prospectus for Deschutes Valley Trail segment C to the June 16 consent calendar with a recommendation to approve and authorize the mayor to sign. Council will consider the prospectus on June 16.
