Spanish Moss Trail highlighted during South Carolina Trails Month

Beaufort County and local partners marked South Carolina’s Trails Month by promoting the Spanish Moss Trail, the county’s 10-mile paved greenway that organizers say draws more than 100,000 visitors annually.
"The Spanish Moss Trail is a wonderful asset, not only to the county, but to the entire Southeast area," Alice Howard, Beaufort County council chair, said on the June 5 Beaufort County TV program. Dean Moss, executive director of the Friends of the Spanish Moss Trail, highlighted recent additions including a specialized kids track, the Downtown Beaufort Connector and new crossings that improve connectivity to Port Royal.
Program organizers described the trail as part of the National East Coast Greenway and said it offers recreational and transportation options while taking users past scenic marshes, wetlands and historic points of interest. Friends of the Spanish Moss Trail advocate for continued development and local stewardship of the corridor, county leaders said.
The segment framed the trail as both a public health and tourism asset; officials encouraged visitors to use the trail’s mobile guide app or donate to the Friends of the Spanish Moss Trail at spanishmosstrail.com. No new funding commitments or policy actions were announced during the segment.
