Beaufort County temporarily relocates polling places for June 9 primary

The Beaufort County Board of Voter Registration and Elections announced temporary polling-place relocations and the creation of a new precinct ahead of the June 9 primary, Beaufort County TV reported on June 5.

The changes affect voters in the Sheldon area, on Lady's Island, on Saint Helena Island and in portions of the Chichese and River Bend communities, the county said. The relocations are temporary and apply only to the June 9 primary and any runoff elections scheduled for June 23.

Voters were reminded that polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day. Early voting is already underway and continues through Friday, June 5; early-voting centers are open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Beaufort County Board of Voter Registration and Elections office, the Saint Helena branch library, the Bluffton branch library, and the University of South Carolina Beaufort’s Hilton Head campus.

The county also reiterated acceptable forms of photo identification, including a South Carolina driver's license, a South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles photo ID card, a voter registration card with a photograph, military ID, a Department of Veterans Affairs ID card, or a U.S. passport. Officials urged all voters to verify their polling location before election day using the South Carolina Election Commission’s “Find My Polling Place” tool or by calling the Beaufort County Board of Voter Registration and Elections at (843) 255-6900.

The relocations were announced in May; county officials described them as temporary measures to ensure polling access for the primary and any subsequent runoff. No votes or policy changes were recorded during the broadcast segment, which served to inform voters of the logistical updates and how to confirm their correct polling site.
