Arsenal described the addition as a modest one-car garage and porch coverings; the requested building coverage would rise to 25.7% where 20% is normally allowed, and impervious coverage would be about 43.9% (existing 38.6%).
A neighbor, Donald Marsala, spoke in support and said he lives next door and that Arsenal maintains his property well. Marsala also told the board he received the mailed notice late in the week and suggested the town improve envelope labeling to make the purpose of the mailing clearer.
Board members noted the neighborhood’s unusual lot geometries and the small size of the parcel and found the application compatible with the area. After discussion, the board voted in favor of the variance in a roll-call vote (yeas 5, nays 0). The board then moved on to other agenda items and adjourned at about 8:38 p.m.
