Silver said the committee had modeled the design on the nautical motif already used at the harbor and preferred that aesthetic rather than the larger, more urban gateway signs used elsewhere in the village. "We decided to sort of model this sign after the ... nautical signs that we have at the harbor," Silver said.
Board members discussed materials (references in the backup included HDU and painted aluminum), the sign’s text treatment (recessed lettering) and durability concerns. Several trustees suggested the 8×5 sign indicated in initial quotes might be larger than necessary; the board asked staff to request pricing for a smaller 6×4 design to reduce cost. The board also discussed whether fonts and finishes should match other wayfinding signs around town.
Trustee Silver recommended a vendor site visit before final design and emphasized the committee’s desire for a long‑lasting installation at the Fenimore gateway. The board agreed to place the proposal on the consent agenda and confirmed a $12,000 maximum figure on the record for the item.
