At public comment, Robert Millis, speaking as a substitute for Kathy Jackson of the Elks Club, said organizers (including the Oaks and the mayor) developed a plan to restore the Flag Day Parade after the Elks announced it would stop producing the event. Millis said the plan extends activities into a four-day Flag Day Week with ancillary events and fundraisers to cover staffing and cost concerns.
"There's only 1 thing stopping this from happening. Our budgeting says we got most of it paid for... Dollars 5,000 is needed for this thing to happen," Millis said, asking for community support. Mayor Safford thanked Millis and said he would commit some personal funds and expressed optimism that the parade will continue, calling for broader community support.
Council members welcomed the revival effort and wished success for the fundraising campaign; the mayor and participants said the city will publicize the 'Save the Parade' appeal and support logistics where possible.
