Interlaken HOA urges council to prevent proposed parcels from joining private association

During Public Hearing No. 1 on the proposed zoning-map amendment, Lynette Burns, president of Interlaken Homeowners Association, said the HOA — representing about 125 homeowners — does not consent to the subject property or anticipated future lots being incorporated into the HOA or to use of HOA private roads, utilities or amenities.
Burns told the council the addition of the four homes would overburden the association's clubhouse, pool and parking, could violate occupancy limits and would create unsustainable costs for maintaining common infrastructure. "Interlaken is a gem in the heart of Saratoga Springs," Burns said, adding the board asks the council to consider impacts to health, safety, welfare and quality of life when weighing any zoning amendment.
Residents raised procedural concerns about closing the hearing; Amy Jerland asked why the council was closing the public hearing if no action was planned, noting the matter appeared controversial at the prior meeting. The mayor and the applicant's attorney said alternatives (variances, revised legislative language) will be explored, neighbors will be consulted and the council could see a revised application in future months. The mayor closed the hearing with no action taken tonight.
