Owner seeks rezoning of 1016 Forest Avenue; planning commission recommended approval

The Gadsden City Council held a public hearing June 2 on a rezoning request for 1016 Forest Avenue, where property owner Cody Robinson requested the property be changed from TR (traditional residential) to NC (neighborhood center).
Robinson, who identified himself to the council, said he has owned the property since 2005 and that it has been used continuously for office and light commercial purposes for decades. "We're just asking to be allowed to use it for commercial purposes," Robinson told the council.
City staff noted the planning commission unanimously recommended approval of the rezoning. The council presented the ordinance for its first reading; the mayor and staff said there was no opposition at the planning commission meeting. The council will vote on the ordinance at its next meeting.
Because this item was presented as first reading, no final action was taken on June 2. The public hearing provided Robinson an opportunity to explain his request and for council members to note the planning commission's recommendation.
