Dodge County approves accounts payable, adopts LRA list and funds Blue Star marker

The Dodge County Board of Commissioners approved several routine but consequential administrative items at its May 19 meeting, including accounts payable totaling $163,912.07 and the 2025 Local Road Assistance (LRA) funds list recommended by the road committee.
Commissioner Jeffrey Jones moved to approve the accounts payable report of $163,912.07; Commissioner Brian Watkins seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Manager Conner Bearden presented the 2025 LRA list and the board approved the list by motion of Commissioner Jones, seconded by Commissioner Leigh Ann Greene.
Commissioner Sharon Cobb Flanagan moved to allocate $600 to the Eastman Garden Club for purchase of a Blue Star Memorial Highway Marker to honor veterans; Commissioner Watkins seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Department heads reported operational updates: EMS Director Michael Johnson said April saw 366 calls and $111,258.22 in revenues and noted the county's two new ambulances are now in service. Fire Chief Jamey Wilkinson reported 78 calls in April and 413 year-to-date with $3,972 in collections.
Manager Bearden noted that Governor Kemp recently signed a bill prohibiting the sale of animals in parking lots, reminded the board that the McCranie Fire Station ribbon-cutting is scheduled for Thursday, and said the chamber banquet is set for May 29. Several board vacancies were reported with no applications received for Farmer's Market, DFCS, Library Board and HOGARC Aging Advisory Committee appointments.
The board entered an executive session at 6:40 p.m. to discuss legal matters, returned to open session at 7:10 p.m., confirmed the selection of MSI Benefits as the county's healthcare broker and adjourned at 7:12 p.m.
