Summary
After an executive session, the Dodge County Board of Commissioners unanimously selected MSI Benefits as the county's healthcare insurance broker. The Dodge County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted May 19 to select MSI Benefits as the county's healthcare insurance broker.
County Manager Conner Bearden told the board earlier in the meeting that seven firms responded to the request for proposals and that the healthcare committee had narrowed the field to three finalists: Capstone, Mark III and MSI Benefits. The board recessed into an executive session for legal matters and returned to open session before taking the formal selection vote.
Commissioner Jeffrey Jones moved to appoint MSI Benefits; Commissioner Leigh Ann Greene seconded the motion. All five commissioners present voted in favor. The board did not provide contract details at the meeting.
During the public-comment portion of the meeting, Clay Kirkley, a representative of Capstone, challenged the manager's description of proposed plan changes, saying the manager's information about plan changes "was inaccurate." The transcript records no immediate response from county staff to that statement.
The vote followed the executive session the board held at 6:40 p.m. to discuss legal matters; the board returned to open session at 7:10 p.m. and then took the vote. The clerk attested the meeting minutes and the board adjourned at 7:12 p.m.
County officials present at the meeting included Chairman Dan McCranie and Commissioners Sharon Cobb Flanagan, Leigh Ann Greene, Vice-Chair Brian Watkins and Jeffrey Jones. Manager Conner Bearden and Clerk Kimberly Smith-Parkerson were also present.
