County signs animal-shelter agreement, previews dump-truck purchase and energy bid decision

Management/finance also reviewed action on natural-gas bids and said the board will consider IGS Energy proposals with either 24- or 36-month fixed rates at the next county board meeting; staff said they will present updated numbers at the Tuesday meeting to inform a vote.
Transportation staff reported a significant driver shortage for the county's rural transit provider (Futures). The agency plans to reassign vehicles that require a commercial driver's license, increase pay to be more competitive, and intensify recruitment through radio, print and social media. Board members characterized driver recruitment as a precondition to restoring contracted provider service levels.
Board members also discussed public posting and distribution of a request-for-proposals for waste-hauling contracts and agreed staff should send letters to previous vendors and prepare draft materials for the board's review.
