Commission weighs Lovell Library termite cost, approves fairgrounds ADA parking and preservation plans

Facilities maintenance supervisor Jeremy Pouska reported multiple facilities issues to the commission on April 15, including active termite damage at the Lovell Library addition, for which contractors quoted $3,184 for extermination. Pouska said the library maintenance budget could not cover that amount and Commissioner Dave Neves suggested the county should pay for the extermination and arrange follow‑up to prevent further damage.

Pouska also said generator replacements funded by an Emergency Management grant have been purchased but that a connect/disconnect fee (approximately $660) was not included in the grant request; an updated quote is expected. He presented a $23,725 quote to reestablish handicapped parking at the Fairgrounds, noting the previous accessible stall did not meet current ADA dimensions and the new layout would provide three compliant spaces; by consensus the commission approved both the generator hookup and ADA parking projects to proceed.

On facilities aesthetics and preservation, Pouska presented roof color swatches for the pig barn and the commission agreed by consensus to match the multi‑purpose building. He also proposed moving two historic cannons indoors — one to the courthouse and one to the Lovell Annex — to protect them from weather; the Wyoming 250 Committee will research cost‑effective preservation options, possible grant support and opportunities for American Legion Post #29 members to teach younger volunteers about maintenance.

Next steps: staff will obtain the updated generator hookup quote, proceed with the ADA parking work and continue research on cannon preservation and funding options.
