Big Horn County advances road work, approves Lane 39 right‑of‑way permit

The Big Horn County Commission on April 15 approved a right‑of‑way permit for Lane 39 and reviewed several ongoing road and bridge projects across the county. Road and Bridge staff reported that most culvert work is complete and durapatching is underway.
Hovey, representing Road and Bridge engineering, presented the Lane 39 permit and recommended approval; Commissioner Dave Neves moved to approve the permit, the motion was seconded and carried. Bridges reported the Cook approach is nearly complete and said the county will proceed with vacating a portion of Greybull River Road; a public hearing on the proposed vacation is scheduled for June 17, 2025. Commissioners confirmed easements will remain in place to preserve utilities and irrigation access.
Bridges said cattle‑guard and fencing issues on Road 13 appear resolved with a new landowner. He also reported that the Wyoming Department of Transportation will seek new right‑of‑way adjustments to realign the Rairden Lane Bridge, an effort that will require additional right‑of‑way work and some vacations to clean up alignments.
Commissioners granted a request to move into executive session to discuss pending litigation; the closed session concluded with no formal action taken.
Next steps: the commission will advertise and hold the public hearing on the Greybull River Road vacation on June 17 and continue coordination with WYDOT on Rairden Lane alignment and related right‑of‑way matters.
