Committee asks staff to research robotics course after mixed support from members

During the referral-tracker discussion, members raised whether a robotics program should become a formal course. Mitch Schindbrot said he had not been a proponent of converting robotics into a course unless there are sufficient student numbers to justify it. "If there are enough students, and I'm not sure what the cutoff is to make it worthwhile, that's really what my interest is," he said.
Anne Marie said the district currently offers manufacturing-technology courses (intro and Manufacturing Tech 1) but does not yet have a robotics course; she said a robotics class, if run, would likely run in the second semester and that the district would first review preliminary enrollments on June 15. She told the committee that if the high school decides to run the course, the district would purchase curriculum materials and bring the course proposal back to the committee for review in early fall.
Dr. Ackerman and other members asked Anne Marie (referred to in the meeting also as Emery) to research whether other high schools in the state currently offer robotics courses and to report findings over the summer. Anne Marie agreed to look into peer-district practice and return with a recommendation and timeline for review.
No formal motion was made to add robotics to the curriculum at this meeting; members emphasized the need to confirm enrollment demand and to ensure alignment with existing CTE offerings before proposing a course for approval.
