Gurnee approves first-phase replacement of police duty rifles

The Gurnee Village Board approved a police department equipment purchase on June 1 for 12 Daniel Defense DDM4V7 duty rifles and associated accessories from low proposer Acme Sports Inc. The total cost for this phase is $19,961 after a $7,200 trade-in credit for 12 older rifles.
A staff memo from the police chief, read by village staff, explained the replacement is a planned, phased effort. "The average age of the rifles are 18 years old, with a bunch over 20," staff said, noting the fiscal-year budget includes funding for the replacement and further purchases are planned later in the fiscal year. Trustee Garner moved the purchase; Trustee Ross seconded; the board approved the request by roll call.
The approved purchase covers optics, lights, slings and backup iron sights. Staff said the department reached out to three vendors; Acme provided the lowest quote including the trade-in credit and the purchase was brought to the board to comply with purchasing policy for multi-phase spending.
