Gurnee regularizes Verizon fiber with right-of-way agreement

The Village of Gurnee approved a right-of-way agreement on June 1 with MCI Metro Access Transmission Services LLC (doing business as Verizon Access Transmission Services) to formalize installations of fiber optic cable that were previously installed in town but not covered by the earlier 2018 agreement.
Staff said Verizon had an earlier agreement limited to a single corridor (Kilbourne) under Ordinance 2018-41; after Verizon installed fiber in other locations the village processed those as building permits but later determined the earlier ROW did not cover the additional sites. "We missed it," a staff member said, adding that the installations met village standards and Verizon helped identify the spots that were omitted. The new agreement follows the village's standard ROW terms on installation, responsibilities and expectations.
Trustee Garner moved approval; Trustee Thorstenson seconded and the board approved the agreement by roll call vote. Staff described the action as an administrative correction to bring prior installations into compliance and to authorize limited future installations in identified locations.
