The Wright County Planning Commission approved a Conditional Use Permit on May 7 allowing land alteration in the shoreland of Maple Lake for two properties owned by Doug & Melody Lindenfelser and Josh & Emalie Scott. The request sought permission to exceed 50 cubic yards of cut/fill in shoreland to create building pads and drainage.
Planning consultant Berine Miller explained the floodplain rules require 15 feet of compliant elevation immediately surrounding structures and noted that the plan is intended to avoid the need for variances by meeting FEMA-related elevation requirements. Staff and commissioners emphasized the need for stormwater and erosion-control measures, and the motion approved by the Commission included conditions that runoff be directed to the lake (not onto adjacent properties) and that future structures meet floodplain elevation standards.
The application packet described the total amount of land alteration as about 300 cubic yards with 80 cubic yards below the floodplain; during discussion Miller later referenced "close to 600 cubic yards for both properties," which appears to refer to combined volumes. The Commission approved the CUP unanimously with conditions requiring erosion control installation before work begins and preservation of floodplain elevation standards.
