The Wright County Planning Commission unanimously amended conditions of a 2007 Conditional Use Permit and approved converting an existing conditional-use for a cold and boat storage business into an Interim Use Permit to allow two additional 88-by-126-foot commercial storage buildings on a lot in Whispering Winds Industrial Park. Applicant Steve Fisher represented Wooden Properties LLC at the May 7 hearing.
Planning & Zoning Assistant Administrator Scott Deckert said the request is consistent with a similar approval in 2024 and showed the site plan and building drawings. The first motion eliminated the requirement for an on-site primary and alternate septic site in favor of allowing holding tanks under specified conditions; commissioners noted holding tanks do not require the same pumping-report records as other systems but remain subject to ordinance pumping rules.
The Commission then approved converting the existing CUP to an Interim Use Permit to authorize expansion, subject to meeting Wright County Soil & Water Conservation District wetland rules and obtaining required building permits. Committee members said the Township recommended approval and that the applicant agreed to meet wetland and permitting requirements.
Both motions carried on unanimous votes; conditions require adherence to wetland regulations and that all necessary building permits be obtained before construction.
