Kent District Library tells Wyoming council branch is a high‑use hub for literacy and meals

Three representatives from Kent District Library briefed the Wyoming City Council on June 1 about local branch services and systemwide achievements.
Sherry Gilrath Watts, Region 8 trustee, said the Wyoming branch is one of the busiest in the Kent District Library (KDL) system and emphasized the library's role in early childhood literacy, technology access and senior programming. “The Wyoming branch is consistently and consistently ranks as one of the absolute best and busiest chapters in our entire KDL system,” she said.
Lance Ford, KDL director, highlighted system metrics for 2025: a 17% increase in digital circulation and about 1.9 million total circulations. He also noted national recognition for KDL’s talking book and braille services and said the system provided about 29,000 meals last summer — and expects more than 30,000 this year — to address summer food insecurity.
Angie Christiansen, manager of the Wyoming and Kellogg School branches, shared local outreach and engagement details: a patron post‑it activity that generated roughly 87 personal comments, summer programming signups, bookmobile stops posted on the branch calendar, planned story times in parks, and a new agreement with Kids Food Basket to provide refrigerated dinner service at multiple branches. Christiansen invited council members to take two patron notes and categorize them for a branch display.
Council members asked practical questions about the bookmobile schedule and branch furnishings; staff confirmed a calendar is posted online and that KDL is working with a designer on furnishing costs. The presentation closed with thanks to library staff and an acknowledgment of long‑serving staff member Karen Small's 40 years of service at the Wyoming branch.
