Enumclaw council approves final plat, adopts two annexations and a temporary VFW lease; one annexation fails

Enumclaw — The Enumclaw City Council on May 11 approved a final plat for a 28‑lot subdivision, adopted one annexation and amended a VFW lease to temporarily relocate senior‑center services during renovations; a separate annexation request failed.
City staff recommended approval of Resolution 18‑75, Sunrise Meadows LLC and JMP 2 Properties LLC's final plat for a 28‑lot subdivision. City staff (Chris Bass) told the council the infrastructure required by preliminary‑plat ordinance 27‑88 has been installed, accepted by the city engineer, and performance and maintenance bonds have been posted. Council moved and approved Resolution 18‑75 by voice vote.
Council considered two separate annexation resolutions. Resolution 18‑76 (the record identifies petitioners related to a Calvert/Kazer Mezic annexation) failed after council vote. By contrast, Resolution 18‑77 (the Tarragon annexation) passed. City staff reported that the Tarragon petition was modified in staff recommendations from three parcels to six (about 18 acres) to regularize the city boundary; staff said water and sewer are available to the area and estimated the 2026 assessed valuation at about $4,000,000. The council recorded five yes votes and one no on the Tarragon resolution.
Resolution 18‑78 authorizes a second amendment to the city's lease with VFW Post 1949 to provide temporary, exclusive weekday use of the VFW Hall from June 1 through Sept. 30 while the Enumclaw Senior Center is renovated. Parks Director Alina Hibbs told council the city will compensate the VFW $6,800 from the project budget and will make small accessibility improvements to the VFW Hall; council approved the lease amendment by voice vote.
What happens next: Adopted annexations will proceed through the steps described in state law and the city's review process; staff said applicants have offered to help cover the city's consultant costs for processing annexation petitions. The failed annexation will not move forward in the form presented. The council adjourned after a short executive session.
