Staff presented proposed FY2027 updates to the district's facility use guide, saying the program supports roughly 8,000 events annually across district facilities and is intended to be cost-neutral. The presenter said half of those events are district-provided at no charge and that increases in staffing and custodial costs have driven the need to adjust rates.
Staff said the largest rate adjustments target commercial (for-profit) groups and non-youth-serving nonprofits while government agencies and youth-serving nonprofits would face limited increases. The hourly rental schedule and simplified equipment fees were highlighted as part of the update.
A staff procedural reminder noted that the district must advertise a required public hearing; staff said the hearing notice will be published on June 5 and that, following a favorable committee recommendation, the board will hold a public hearing before any final action. The committee moved, seconded and approved a favorable recommendation to proceed with the advertised hearing and subsequent board consideration.
The committee also asked staff to clarify large facility capacities (indoor auditorium ~900 seats; outdoor district stadiums ~6,000 seats) during questions about rate categories and venue classifications. Staff said they compared rates with other districts and still view district rates as relatively low.
