Murdock said two Spanish teachers piloted materials from two different publishers and that both aligned to Ohio standards. "The cost tonight is $10,980, which for a textbook adoption is very low," she said, adding that pilot classrooms received physical book sets at no cost during the evaluation.
The presentation also noted two additions to the middle‑school course of study: foundations of language classes for grades 7 and 8 intended to support students on reading-improvement plans required by the Ohio Revised Code. A future high‑school data science foundations course appears in the course documents but is not being offered this year.
Superintendent Howard told board members the district will ask for formal approval of the textbook adoption and the course‑of‑study updates at the next board meeting. He also said, given the district’s current finances, full curriculum adoptions are being postponed; district staff expect to keep textbook and materials spending under $200,000 this year by prioritizing renewals and limited new adoptions.
If the board approves the recommendation at the business meeting, staff will return with the formal adoption motion and any final contract details for the selected publisher.
