The Lyon County Board of Commissioners on May 21 approved the county's final fiscal year 2026-2027 budget after pulling a single line item for separate consideration.
Comptroller Josh Foli told the board the Department of Taxation found the tentative budget in compliance with law and that there were no changes between the tentative and final drafts. Commissioner John Cassinelli disclosed a relationship with the Northern Nevada Development Authority and said, "Per NRS 281A.420, due to my relationship with the Northern Nevada Development Authority, I wish to abstain from the line item on page 24 regarding economic development." The board voted to pull page 24 and approve the remainder of the budget.
Commissioner Robert Jacobson subsequently moved to approve the $50,000 appropriation on page 24, the county's proposed annual contribution to the Northern Nevada Development Authority (NNDA); the motion passed 4-0 with Cassinelli recorded as abstaining. Commissioners later approved the final budget (excluding page 24 during that vote) with a 5-0 tally.
Board members praised staff for a conservative approach to spending. The comptroller noted projected Regional Improvement Board expansion in Dayton due to population growth and answered commissioners' questions about capital and operating forecasts.
What happens next: The budget, as adopted, provides the county's fiscal plan for 2026-27. The separate approval of the NNDA contribution was recorded with an abstention under NRS 281A.420; no further action on the adoption itself was indicated at the meeting.
