The Red Willow County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 11 adopted a $3,918,018 property tax request for fiscal year 2017–2018, increasing the county’s levy to 0.302105 from last year’s 0.296453.
County finance consultant Dan Miller presented the budget summary and the figures the board used to set the levy. The board passed Resolution No. 1313 to adopt the budget and later approved Resolution No. 1314 to set the final tax request at $3,918,018. The county also authorized transfers from the General Fund to Road/Bridge and Self-Insurance funds and approved a planned transfer from the Inheritance Fund to the General Fund to meet cash-flow needs.
Why it matters: the adopted levy funds routine county operations, road and bridge work, and internal insurance obligations. One component of the package, Resolution No. 1317, authorizes a transfer of up to $710,000 from the Inheritance Fund to the General Fund, and Resolutions 1315–1316 formalize monthly transfers to the Road/Bridge and Self-Insurance funds.
Board members voted on the measures following a public budget hearing; no public speakers registered substantive objections during the hearing. The board said the increase was driven by budgetary needs identified in departmental requests and by anticipated insurance and road expenditures. The adopted budget documents and the tax request are on file at the County Clerk’s office. The County Clerk will publish the notice required by state law.
