Commission approves wetland determinations for two sites and a limited Parks & Rec roadway repave

At its May 26 meeting the Dartmouth Conservation Commission approved routine business and several staff‑recommended determinations arising from field trip reports.
The commission voted unanimously to approve the minutes of April 14, 2026. On field trip reports, staff recommended that the commission place four wetland flags and record the wetland line at 706 Elm Street; commissioners approved that recommendation. For 1 Madera Court staff found no wetlands and recommended a negative determination of applicability; the commission approved that recommendation unanimously.
The commission also reviewed a request from the Town of Dartmouth Parks & Recreation to repave the access road to Round Hill Beach (231 Smith Neck Road, Map 90 Lot 10) within the wetland buffer and coastal storm flowage areas. Staff recommended issuing a limited set of determinations (positive 2b; negative 2, 3 and 6) for a limited restoration/reconstruction of approximately 600 linear feet plus an additional roughly 100 linear feet where subsidence was evident. Commissioners approved staff’s recommendation by unanimous roll call.
All votes on these items were unanimous; staff noted that the Parks & Recreation project is intended as a temporary holdover measure while a more permanent structural solution is investigated.
